SUMMARY:Milton Legion Bottle Drive
DESCRIPTION:The Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 136 – Milton) / Milton Legion is back collecting recyclable glass bottles and cans at 21 Charles St. Proceeds will be split between North Halton Hospice and Milton Legion. \nIf you are looking for a way to free up space in your garage while doing good in your community. If you are dropping off empties\, please bring them in boxes if you can\, and keep the area as tidy as possible. There is a shed for you to place your recyclables into. \nLegion Chief Steward Georgia Shaw started this fundraiser just after the Covid shutdown in 2020 and since that time\, over $70\,000 has been raised to build our hospice. We are so grateful!

SUMMARY:Halton Harvests for Hospice
DESCRIPTION:Halton Harvests for Hospice is a community-led initiative started by Weathered Rock Farm in support of North Halton Hospice to bring local farms together throughout the month of September to support hospice care in our community. \nThroughout September\, farms across Halton are invited to join Weathered Rock Farm by choosing a way to give that works for them\, whether that is by donating a percentage of September sales\, select proceeds from Farmers’ Markets or a specific product\, a set contribution amount or another approach entirely of your choosing. \nThere is no minimum contribution\, and you don’t need to know how much you’d like to contribute upon signing up. You will have the entire month of September to decide how you would like to ultimately contribute to the campaign! \nWe will connect with participating farms during the final week of September to confirm contributions ahead of our collective cheque presentation in October. \nParticipant registration form

SUMMARY:Last Aid Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Last Aid is a public education course that helps to raise awareness on topics like palliative care\, death\, dying\, grief and bereavement. \n\n\n\nMost of us will care for a loved one who is ill\, dying or grieving. Yet many of us do not feel prepared. Last Aid Training aims to increase community participation in Palliative Care\, discussing how we can all play a role in supporting one another through life’s final chapters. \nJoin facilitators Anita Del Re and Anne Stewart as they guide you through the essentials of palliative care\, bereavement and practical support for every community member. You’ll gain confidence and tools to care for those close to you during life’s most difficult transitions. \nAnne Stewart\, RSSW with the College for Social Workers and Social Service Workers and End-of-Life Doula\, has started her professional career as a nurse in palliative care and oncology working in Switzerland. Since then\, she has shifted her focus from a medical model of care towards an individualized\, person-centered approach offering grief support and end-of-life navigation through her private practice Holding Space Halton and at Schlegel Villages in Hamilton. Anne has taught for the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies at Sheridan College and has facilitated Death Cafés and Advance Care Planning workshops for NHH. She is a member of the North Halton Hospice Awareness Committee and supports her local community as a Wellness Volunteer offering Therapeutic Touch at Acclaim Health. \nAnita Del Re is a Registered Nurse with over 20 years of experience caring for children and adults in critical care\, emergency and ambulatory settings. Throughout her career\, she has supported patients and families through serious illness and difficult moments. As a Last Aid Course Facilitator\, Anita brings this experience to open\, practical\, and compassionate conversations about dying\, death and grief. \nA short lunch break is included in the timing of this course. \nNorth Halton Hospice is offering this course to the community sponsored by donations through Giving Tuesday. \nRegister here
