SUMMARY:Compassion Classic Golf Tournament 2022
DESCRIPTION:The Compassion Classic 2022\nA fabulous time was had by all who attended the Compassion Classic this year! With everyone’s support we were able to raise just over $48\,000 for Townsend Smith Foundation! \nThe Compassion Classic charitable golf tournament is an important annual fundraising event organized by volunteers to support the Townsend Smith Foundation (TSF) and our goal to build and operate a hospice residence for the people in North Halton. The need for palliative care will touch every family in our community at some point; having the right facilities and infrastructure in place is necessary to ensure families can spend time with their loved one instead of driving out of town\, worrying about care and pain management\, and feeling isolated from their support network. The hospice will provide a calm\, peaceful\, home-like environment where individuals with life-limiting illness\, as well as their families and loved ones\, are supported through the resident’s final stages of life.\n\n  \nThank you to all our Sponsors:\n \nMindfulness for Health\nTherapy Helps\nVij Richards Psychotherapy\nElpizo Counselling Services\nHalton Therapy & Neurofeeedback\nCo & Associates\nSatinder Brar\nMi Box Mobile Storage\nGrace Anglican Church\nJ&D Tire Sales and Service\nHD Watson Inc\nMelanie Beaumont Professional Corporation\nMcKersie-Kocher Funeral Home\nJ Scott Early Funeral Home\nCannonball Pools Inc\nBayshore Home Health\nMilton Machine Shop\nJ. SUMMARY:As Bright As Heaven - on Death and Dying
DESCRIPTION:Presenters Tish Butson\, Shona Louis\, and Janine McNaul discuss Susan Meissner’s novel As Bright As Heaven. Set in 1918 Philadelphia\, as troops continue to leave the U.S. to fight in Europe and the Spanish flu takes hold of their city\, a family that has already suffered the loss of a child meets the challenges and turmoil of a life they could never have imagined. \nTish\, Shona\, and Janine all have experience in palliative care\, and bring their knowledge to a book club-like discussion about the many ways death affects individuals\, families\, neighbourhoods\, and the larger society around them. Guests will be able to participate in a general conversation moderated by TSF Board Secretary Holly Lillico. \nPlease note that Townsend Smith Foundation does not offer counselling and that this session is aimed at people who are interested in discussing our common concern – how we meet adversity and live meaningful lives that must inevitably end. \nJanine McNaul is a death doula who has been a hospice volunteer and worked with RCMP Victim Services. Her personal experience of stillbirth has opened her to hearing the stories of others who are grieving. \nShona Louis trained with Janine as a death doula\, and is a hospice nurse in South Halton. She wants to de-stigmatize the topic of death\, and bring the resources of “the village” to help at the end of life. \nTish Butson is a retired nurse with experience in palliative and geriatric care and many years volunteer service with Milton Seniors’ Activity Centre\, Halton Elder Services Advisory Committee\, and Halton CARP. A former TSF Board Director\, Tish is eager to see a hospice residence built for the growing population of North Halton.

SUMMARY:Spirituality & Religion Workshop
DESCRIPTION:People practice in different ways while connecting to their beliefs. Join us to learn more about religion and spirituality: from practices\, to differences and similarities. Is there a real connection between religion and spirituality? Some people argue that the two are very different (types of beliefs). Others notice some very important similarities which bear closer consideration. Those beliefs guide people’s lifestyle and the culture of their emotions\, feelings and brain. Discover the background and geographic areas of people practising religion or spirituality\, their cultures and traditions. \nFeatured Speaker: Hanadi Al Masri is the Director of Social Innovation & Enterprises at HMC Connections. She has worked with HMC Connections for the last 19 years. (Arrived to Canada as a skilled immigrant.) She has presented many conferences\, such as Safe Guarding Halton Forum\, a Shared Responsibility of Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse\, Halton Showcase\, Trauma of Exile\, and Challenges to Settlement with the Canadian Centre of Victims of Torture in Toronto\, Equity and Social Justice. She provides (different) consultation on immigration reform\, settlement services and Cultural Barriers Analysis to improve access and reduce barriers within integration of newcomers to Canada\, and works effectively with the Ministry of Transportation and Halton Regional Police on Road Safety Education and awareness within cultural groups. Hanadi provides training sessions on Diversity & Cultural Competence\, Cultural Awareness\, Best Practices for Newcomer’s Integration and Settlement and has developed a user-defined Service Model of Case Management. \nHanadi has established a strong understanding on addressing cultural practices for ethnically\ndiverse families within mental health services\, (delivery module) and the need for cultural navigators to decrease the stigma associated with mental health access and awareness for ethnic communities. Her passion is DIVERSITY & INCLUSION. \n\n

SUMMARY:Catch The Ace 2021
DESCRIPTION:The Townsend Smith Hospice Foundation is excited to share that we are hosting our very own Catch the Ace progressive raffle lottery! Participants are welcomed to purchase raffle tickets and have a chance to win big! \nHow to Play: To play Catch the Ace participants must purchase tickets which correspond with a numbered envelope. Each envelope holds a card from a standard deck of playing cards. Each week a name will be pulled from the draw\, the name drawn is the weekly winner\, who wins 20% of the ticket sales that week! They will also be invited to reveal what playing card is inside their envelope. If it is the Ace of Spades\, they will also win an additional 30% of the ticket sales! If that card is not the Ace of Spades\, that card will be removed from play and that 30% of the ticket sales gets rolled over into the next week. This process repeats until the Ace of Spades is found! The remaining 50% of the overall ticket sales goes to the The Townsend Smith Hospice Foundation. \nPrices: 5 for $10\, 20 for $25\, 80 for $50\, or 200 for $100 \nDraws: Ticket sales will conclude each Friday at noon\, at which time all qualified tickets are confirmed and the weekly winner is drawn. Ticket sales will commence on January 1st and the first draw will happen on January 8th! Raffle ends whenever the Ace of Spades is found! \nBUY TICKETS NOW
